Business surveys pointed to a pick-up in economic activity at the beginning of the new year.
News on the UK's future trading relationships is expected to affect activity and growth within the UK housing market.
Modest expansion in the UK housing market is expected in 2020.
The English Housing Survey compiled by MHCLG showed a very slight increase in homeownership rates in 2019 to 63.8% (63.5% in 2018).
The number of private rented households increased to 4.6 million although its proportion declined slightly to 19.3%.
